File: Spanish Wines - Wine Futures
Danish-born and Bordeaux-trained, Peter Sissek made his first vintage of Pingus in 1995. 4 hectares of ancient Tempranillo vines in the Ribera del Duero produce just 4,000-5,000 bottles a year. It's now the most expensive ...
wine in Spain.
In 1996, Jean-Luc Thunevin invited him to bring his wine to the La Dominique en primeurs tasting in Bordeaux. He's been coming ever since. Pingus was the first Spanish wine to be sold on the futures market.
Sissek also produces Flor de Pingus, which is not a second wine but rather the wine from a separate vineyard of 35-year-old vines. Both vineyards have been organic from the start and are now fully biodynamic.
His take on his 2007 vintage: more of an old world wine than a new world wine.
