File "Bordeaux Futures 2007: The Wine Merchants
The Libournais wine merchant firm of Jean Pierre Moueix is one of the most powerful on the Bordeaux marketplace. Owned by Christian Moueix and his family, the firm controls, exclusively, the sales of a portfolio of ...
prestigious wines from Pomerol and Saint Emilion. Many of these estates are owned or managed by the family, including Petrus, Trotanoy, and Magdelaine.
The firm also acts as a traditional wine merchant, buying the crops from local estates, blending and aging the wine the Moueix cellars and putting their own label on it.
Although the family and firm is strongly rooted on the Right Bank, Christian Moueix expanded his activities with the creation of Autres Rivages, which sells fine wines from the Medoc, Graves and Sauternes.
Moueix also owns vineyards in Napa, producing Napanook and Dominus Estate.
Christian Moueix hasn't given an on-camera interview in decades. Despite being camera shy, he hasn't gone unnoticed by the media. Decanter Magazine named him 'Man of the Year" for 2008 and the James Beard Foundation named him "Legend of Wine 2008.' The Vininews team enjoyed their conversation with him immensely.
The Jean-Pierre Moueix wine portfolio includes:
Pomerol: Petrus, Trotanoy, Certan de May, Hosanna, Providence, La Fleur-Petrus, Latour, Certan Marzelle, Bourgneuf, La Grave, Lafleur-Gazin, Plince.
Saint-Emilion: Belair (Saint-Emilion 1er Grand Cru Classé), La Serre (Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé), Magdelaine (Saint-Emilion 1er Grand Cru Classé).
